THINGS TO DO IN ONSLOW
WATER ACTIVITIES
There are many beautiful islands that lie just 20 km offshore from Onslow. Fantastic dive sites, plentiful fishing, and relaxing charters to enjoy the scenery are a wonderful way to explore all that these islands have to offer. New and experienced divers will be spoilt for choice, with the many reefs, and shallow protected coral gardens that are in abundance. Snorkeling offers an unobtrusive way to observe all the fascinating marine life. This is not only for people who feel at home in the water. There are fishing charters that can be booked, and turtle watching, which is especially exciting from Christmas until April, when hatch lings can be seen making their way to the water. Dolphins, whale sharks and whales can also be spotted, and mud crabs live in the creeks and mangroves surrounding the area.
OLD ONSLOW
The original town was abandoned in 1925, and is now home to restored ruins. The old police station allows for viewing of the prison, and the remains of the jetty since the devastation of Cyclone Vance. Find time to visit the Good Shed Museum too, which houses many historical artifacts from Onslow – the museum itself is heritage listed too.
IAN BLAIR MEMORIAL WALKWAY
A timber walkway starting at Beadon Point is a great way to enjoy the scenery as well as fitting in your daily exercise. This track is a memorial to Ian Blair, a former policeman who served the Onslow community for many years. The walkway ends at Sunset Beach.
ONSLOW RODEO
Onslow Rodeo holds events throughout the year. There is a band, bar and food stalls, as well as all the excitement of a live rodeo. Many competitors travel from surrounding stations to test their skill at this 'must see' event.
CHEVRON
Chevron's Wheatstone Natural Gas site is located close to the Old Onslow Townsite where a large gas processing plant is currently being constructed with the first gas due to be pumped in July 2017. The development that is currently being witnessed in Onslow, and the growth of the town is largely due to the arrival of the Wheatstone Project in the area. The Wheatstone and nearby Iago natural gas resources are located about 200km (124 miles) north of Onslow off Western Australia's Pilbara coast.

ONSLOW SALT
Onslow salt field produces a staggering 2.5 million tonnes of salt a year ! It is a solar marine salt field and took two years to establish. The first shipment of salt it produced was in April 2001.
MINDEROO STATION
Minderoo station is a cattle station, just south of Onslow. Once a sheep farming station, it was established in 1878. The property has been in the Forrest family for generations, and is now the spiritual home of the Minderoo Foundation. The original aim of the Minderoo Foundation was to help all Australians, particularly children and Indigenous Australians, to dream way beyond what their current circumstances and expectations might allow. The portfolio of the Minderoo Group has expanded and supports a wide variety of charitable causes.
